Biological Industries' proprietary Papain Dissociation Solution is stable and ready-to-use. Papain is a nonspecific, endolytic, sulfhydryl protease derived from papaya fruit (Carica papaya). It is commonly used in cell isolation procedures (e.g. dissociation of retinal neurons and smooth muscle cells), where it has been proven to be more efficient and less destructive than other proteases. Papain can also be used in cell culture applications, where its wide specificity, coupled with its fewer negative effects on cells and tissues, makes it an effective non-animal alternative for trypsin.
Advantages:
- Cell dissociation may be performed at room temperature
- Decreased clump formation; Dissociates clumped cells in 2-4 minutes
- Better recovery (normal proliferation and morphology) following dissociation
- Results in homogeneous single cell suspension
- Ready-to-use solution
The time needed to dislodge cells will vary depending upon cell line and medium used. For very delicate cells, or if slower dissociation is desired, the Papain Dissociation Solution may be diluted with Papain Dilution Buffer (Cat. No. 02-050-1).
